Yolanda and Yorick are here!

Today was the day! We drove down to Tucson to go and pick up Yolanda and Yorick from the airport. They had to drive from Elemental Acres in Oregon to Seattle to make their flight down to us, and the two of them took it all in stride!

We have been waiting for this day for a few months now, the day when we get our second breeding pair of Meishans. Everyone was so excited, the parents, the kids, even some of the animals!

Meet Yolanda

Yolanda and her "pet" pig, Frances Bacon

Meet Yolanda, our new gilt, who is sharing a pen with Frances Bacon. Even though Frannie is older and bigger than her, this does not seem to bother Yolanda, and she is already asserting her dominance over her pen-mate.

Meet Yorick

Yorick and Kevin are getting on fine.

Yorick is our boar who we'll be mating with Yolanda. He is sharing a pen with Kevin Bacon (Frannie's brother, a barrow), and they are still trying to figure out who is boss. Don't worry, they're not fighting.

Meeting the Others

The other animals were also really excited to meet the new piggies. Yolanda got to meet Nandi and Hamilton, and some of our bucks were also eager to meet her. Captain Barnacles, our Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dog, was very interested to meet Yorick.

Starting Our Breeding Program

We're really excited to have another breeding pair of Meishans, especially with the genetic diversity that Yolanda and Yorick bring to our herd. Together with Nandi and Musa, we will be able to offer breeding pairs with great genetics for anyone who is wanting to start their own herd!
