Our Meishans

We have two unrelated pairs of Meishan pigs, and our goal is to be able to sell breeding pairs out of the offspring of each pair. Why Meishans?

Nandi and Musa

We decided to give our first pair of pigs Zulu names, in honor of our South African origin. Nandi means "sweet" and Musa means "kindness"- names given in hope that our first Meishans would prove as gentle and friendly as we had read. We haven't been disappointed.

Nandi was born on April 5th, 2023, one of 13 piglets out of her dam's first litter (quite an excellent size for a first litter, which are typically smaller). Her dam is Imperial Midnight and her sire is Imperial Maverick, both of which are extremely close to the foundation herds. Nandi is over 60% USDA origin (a great thing when you are breeding for genetic diversity, as the USDA herd was the most diverse).

Musa was born on May 3rd, 2023, also one of his dam's first litter. His dam also proved to be an exceptional mother and we are glad to be passing down those top notch mothering instincts that are so often lacking in commercial breeds. His dam is Imperial Myrtle, and sire is Meishan Preservation Piggy Smalls (2). Musa is also just over 60% USDA.

Both Nandi and Musa were bred at Pig Wing Farm, who were the first to bring Meishans to Arizona.

We are planning our first litter our of Nandi and Musa for Spring 2024.

Yolanda and Yorick

Yolanda and Yorick are our second breeding pair. They were both born in Autumn 2023, so they need some growing up time before we will see a litter from them, but we are so excited to have their genetics in our herd!

Yolanda's dam is Domystic Meifeng, the AMBA record holder for most piglets born in a litter- 22! She has also produced multiple litters of 19, making her a powerhouse producer in the Meishan world. She is also on the big side for Meishans at around 400 lbs. Yolanda's sire is Rill Haven Kai, one of the largest Meishan boars around, estimated at 500 lbs. Both are very gentle and easy to handle, even at their larger sizes- this is one of the ways Meishans truly shine, especially in a homesteading context!

Yorick has an equally impressive lineage. His dam is Meishan Preservation Gaia and his sire is Odd Bird Maui. Both Gaia and Maui are broad for the breed, with rounder shoulders and hams than are typically seen on Meishans. One of their offspring from a previous litter was raised for 4-H and reached an impressive 254 lbs in just 7 months! The Kune we harvested at 14 months weighed less! Feeding your pig for half the time and getting more meat? Yes, please!

We are confident that once Yolanda and Yorick start producing, they will give us excellent offspring for both breeders and meat grow-outs.

Yolanda and Yorick were both bred by Elemental Acres in Oregon. We flew these awesome pigs here so that we can get these genetics producing in our herd and yours!
